A new age of business telephony: why should you make the switch?

For many people in business, the telephone remains the preferred choice of communication. It is true that when someone really has a problem they need to resolve, they pick up the phone. That makes your telephony systems a core part of your business. For something quite so important, it pays to ensure that it is as resilient as possible – constant phone issues can leave your customers with a bitter taste in their mouths and hurt your reputation.
When thinking about upgrading telephony, resilience is often overlooked in favour of price or feature set. For many, telephony is a means to an end. However, if a telephone system were to fail, even if it only resulted in an hour of downtime, how much damage could that do? Customer queries, sales enquiries and supplier notes will be missed.
If, then, it is so important to have a trustworthy, reliable telephone system in place, how can you be sure you are getting such a system?
Cloud Telephony offers some unique benefits that give it the edge over legacy telephony in terms of resilience.
Unlike legacy telephony systems, Cloud Telephony does not require any on-site infrastructure in order to function. As the name suggests, it is based in the cloud and therefore all of the important back-end infrastructure that makes it function is based over the internet. A locally hosted VoIP server can fail, which in turn knocks out your phones until it is restored. However, internet based Cloud Telephony has multiple failover options in the cloud so a shock in one area is not felt throughout your system.
Furthermore, your phones are not location dependent, which means they will still be fully functioning even if they are removed from your office environment. Having a focus on one particular location places undue pressure on your network – a problem there effects everything. Freedom and flexibility of your phone systems eases that.
Because a Cloud Telephony system can be used with as little as a softphone (more details on these available in our previous blog) there is no reliance on physical handsets either. Put simply, there is no requirement to have a physical phone at your desk in order to make phone calls. Should an accident happen at your office – such as a fire – you can be back up and running with your phones immediately because even if the phones themselves are lost, you can enlist your mobile phone or laptop as an outlet for your telephone calls and make and receive them on those devices seamlessly – the end user telephoning you would be none the wiser.
If you are looking for a new phone system, do not discount the importance of resilience. If an outage knocks out your phones, the effects will be felt. If you would like to find out more about Cloud Telephony, download our brochure or get in touch with us at sales@entrustit.co.uk or 0330 002 0045.
